The Importance of the Club Structure in Junior Development
As you know the priority of Tri NB leading up to the 2013 Canada Games and into the future is to develop our base of juniors. You also know that we have a Provincial Coach and have established the Recreation Centre on Base Gagetown as the Provincial Training Centre for Jr camps. The main role of the Provincial coach is to focus on the content of these camps and give the Juniors the basics of the sport and hopefully send them back to their community to implement the training concepts that they have learned. The Provincial Coach, working with the Board, sets the standards that are used in the selection of juniors for major events. The role of Clubs in these communities would be one of additional support and provide the environment within which a junior can refine their skills in the sport by training with their peers and adult club members. Clubs should have at least one individual who has gone through the Community Coaching Program and is committed to working with the Provincial Coach for Junior Development. The Community Coach, within a club structure, is fundamental to a successful Junior Program. Juniors will come from a Club’s community and perhaps even be identified by the Club from the local KOS events. Local kids have a place to belong.
