Met with the folks at Subaru in Mississauga earlier this week. At this point, we are looking to host a long course event in the Province that will, by 2010 and onward, develop into a world class event. Subaru is confirming the possibility of Ironman Canada age group spots being made available to the event yet this is not 100% confirmed yet. TriNB is now looking for proposals from interested race directors/committees. Please include the following:
A) Confirmed adherence to all stipulations outlined in the TriNb sanctioning package for a race in our series
B) Documented course maps/routes and any pertinent details (open water issues, closed bike course possibilities, running terrain etc)
C) Document regional ammenities: distance to hotels, hospital, restaurants, tourist attractions, points of interest etc
D) Document accessibility of the event: distance to various large cities in Maritimes, NB, Quebec, New England.
E) Looking for a synopsis of why your committee/venue/local sponsors should host this event.
Deadline for submission of the proposal will tentatively be June 26th (this date is not confirmed yet so please submit your proposal at your earliest opportunity).
All proposals should be directed to Garth Millar.
Regardless of whether or not your event becomes the chosen venue, TriNB encourages you to host an event in anticipation of adding your race to the TriNB calendar for 2009 or 2010 and going forward. |

It seems we have no fewer than three seperate groups that have come forward looking to host this event...excellent enthusiasm and thank you for your quick contact with TriNB. At this moment, we are looking for guidance from Subaru Canada regarding the particulars of this event and, the moment we have the guidelines, we will post these for you. As time is limited, we will require a proposal from each interested race committee and these will be reviewed by both the TriNB board as well as Subaru Canada. We promise a quick decision.

Sackville would make the most sense to me, since it is during the right time frame and has a good venue (good lake, not too much traffic, interesting run course). I would not want to suggest saddling the organizers of the Sackville race with this extra pressure, however, unless they offered.
Great idea though and it would be very realistic to plan for this event in 2010.

We are hoping to reinstate this race for 2010 with Bill's help but this remains to be seen at this time. Perhaps he would be interested in discussing having someone new at the helm of this race or perhaps someone to help him as joint race director but I can't answer this...we need his input or someone to contact him to discuss. |

I was just wondering about St. George. Are they not doing the Long Course this year? |

This is a great opportunity to elevate the profile of triathlon in NB. Also, to give some great athletes the opportunity to compete at a larger event and possibly gain access to one of Canada's premier events, IM Canada, without having to travel long distances to qualify. We have lots of amazing potential venues, with beautiful scenery, clean water and of course great people.
Bring it on!

TriNB's lead corporate sponsor, Subaru Canada, has requested we consider sanctioning a measured long course (1.2m swim/56m bike/13.1m run) event here in New Brunswick that would (in the long term) carry the same prestige as other world-class events held throughout Canada every season. We are in need of a venue and race director/committee that is up to the challenge of hosting such an event beginning this season in late August/early september.
Subaru has hinted at the possibility of a couple of Ironman Canada age group spots being offerred for our event. The intent would be to ultimately host an event with an elite wave of athletes and draw a significant number of participants both locally and regionally.
Looking for feedback on venue suggestions and ultimately someone to rise to the occassion and assume the responsibility for hosting the event. |
